Founded in 1996, Distinctive Wood Creations is a custom woodworking studio located in Middleton, Wisconsin, specializing in Kitchen Cabinets, Bath Cabinets, Libraries, Bars, Mantels and Fireplace Surrounds, Custom Wood Furniture and all woodworking projects.

While others simply broker cabinetry as a commodity item assembled in a factory, we work in the tradition of The Masters, building handcrafted cabinetry and furniture with the care and attention you deserve.

As our client, you are extended an open invitation to make periodic visits to the shop where you can witness the evolution of your masterpiece.

PHILOSOPHY - In the words of Kurt Nachreiner

For me, as a craftsman, my philosophy of woodworking is far reaching. I believe woodworking should be done for the love of the art using traditional hands-on skills passed down from prior generations when there was pride in craftsmanship.

In a world of mass produced everything, including cabinetry and furniture, todays concept of woodworking should hardly be called such. The entire idea of the craft is being lost to the idea a person sitting in an office uses their computer to “talk” to machinery which spits out parts and subsequently, unskilled labor stands on an assembly line and puts a pile of meaningless parts together. I can't think of anything more contrary to such a beautiful art form.

Here at Distinctive Wood Creations, we approach each and every unique project with a blank and limitless canvas. The only thing un-obtainable is what the creative mind can't see. We excel at exciting your aesthetic sense and every phase of your project is executed with a goal of perfection.

Kurt Nachreiner

Owner, Kurt Nachreiner, attended The University of Wisconsin Platteville and in 1985 earned a degree in Industrial Education. Upon graduation, the decision was made to pursue a professional career in woodworking. Having spent over 10 years honing his skills at a local cabinet shop, in 1996 Nachreiner launched Distinctive Wood Creations which exists today as a premier woodworking company.

Sam Morrison

In 2015, Sam began his career in the trades as a welder/fabricator in the Madison area. In his spare time, he began building metal and wood furniture, which sparked his passion for woodworking. By 2017, Sam made the transition from welding to cabinetry and furniture at Distinctive Wood Creations, which allowed him to pursue both woodworking and metal fabrication full time. “The greatest joy as a craftsman is being able to build and create with my hands. The process of seeing custom, hand-drawn projects go from drawing to completion is exciting.”
